The University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine
The 2025 ADEA SLSC aims to educate, empower, and equip future oral health professionals to address structural inequities within the field and identify opportunities for collaboration. This 1.5-day program will feature lectures, interactive activities, networking opportunities and a collaborative project to deepen participants’ learning. Through engagement with experts in oral health, health equity, and education, participants will critically examine research, resources, case studies, and their own knowledge to shape their role in advancing oral health education and equity through advocacy to improve health outcomes for their communities.
Learning Objectives:
Understand the intersections of policy and equity: Explore how policies at local, state, and federal levels influence access to care, workforce diversity and oral health outcomes, with a focus on addressing structural inequities.
Develop advocacy skills for systemic change: Learn effective strategies for oral health leaders to engage in advocacy efforts, from grassroots mobilization to engaging policy making processes.
Analyze case studies on structural barriers and solutions: Examine real-world examples of structural inequities in oral health and the innovative approaches used to address these barriers.
Identify collaborative strategies for interpersonal action: Identify strategies to engage and collaborate with peers in educating and addressing social determinants of health and the importance of education and advocacy.
