Coaching, an evidence-based tool to help people achieve their aspirations, can be utilized in many ways in dental education. Following an introduction of different forms of coaching, four presenters ranging from students to faculty to associate deans share examples of how coaching is currently used in their school and its impact. Topics include (1) exploring the power of coaching at the leadership level, (2) empowering junior faculty in their career path, (3) turning a skeptic into an advocate of coaching, (4) incorporating coaching skills into a schoolwide mentoring program and (5) guiding students’ career choice through individual and group coaching.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define different aspects of coaching.
  • Recognize how different dental schools utilize coaching and coaching skills.
  • Examine the benefits of coaching and ways to introduce coaching at your own institution.
