Leadership in the oral health care team is a key student competency in our predoctoral program. Examination of the curriculum revealed that leadership skills are taught, and students are required to demonstrate these skills during their didactic, clinical and community service experiences. In addition to the daily clinical evaluation of student professional attributes, the program implemented the Clinical Leadership Competency assessment to measure the culminating student leadership skills. This presentation will provide you information about the process for selection and administration of a summative competency assessment to evaluate key leadership skills in the planning, delivery and transformation of health care.
Learning Objectives:
Identify and recognize factors that challenge the evaluation of students’ leadership skills to measure progress towards and/or meeting competency in predoctoral clinical settings.
Recognize the importance of the selection of a theoretical framework for the development of a valid student leadership assessment.
Assess the importance of field testing, the determination of psychometric properties, standard-setting and draw conclusions about the test validity in the appraisal of CODA Predoctoral Standard 2-19.
