Professionals often work under premises of infinite physical and mental energy, moving from one project to the next, from one patient to the next medical emergency and from one curricular innovation to the next accreditation site visit without breaks. Wearing masks of resilience, we could easily find ourselves in an occupational state of unmanaged stress or burnout syndrome (WHO_ICD-11). Students and faculty are at high risk, considering the rigor associated with dental school and the profession. The session will explore micro to macro burnout and present strategies to identify stressors, foster self-care, promote overall wellbeing and live “burnished” lives!

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the macro and microstressors that cause burnout syndrome.
  • Examine the consequences of burnout syndrome in academic dentistry and its far-reaching impacts on the person and the profession.
  • Describe wholesome strategies for self-care and stress management to enhance overall wellbeing.
