Effective mentoring is essential for faculty development. The University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine’s 12-month formal mentoring program, STEER (Support, Training, Early-Career Enhancement, and Retention), establishes intentional mentoring relationships for faculty at all levels. It promotes a culture of support by successfully weaving together mentor training and mentee development. Participants will learn strategies to establish formal mentoring programs within their institutions, identify key areas for faculty development and implement methods to measure program impact. They will explore techniques to foster a vibrant mentorship community and develop a sustainable pipeline of skilled mentors using the STEER model as a framework.
