Strategies exist to help dental schools increase both recruitment and retention of historically underrepresented racial and ethnic (HURE) faculty and students. While best practices continue to evolve, oral health professions education schools/programs remain largely homogenous despite articulated commitments to inclusive environments. The importance of institutional efforts and professional allies is key, particularly in light of growing misinformation and disinformation concerning equity, inclusion and diversity (EDI). This session provides discussion of institutional strategies for supporting HURE faculty in advancing into leadership roles. The session will also provide opportunity for members to engage best practices for social justice, well-being and resilience.

Learning Objectives:

  • Gain knowledge in strategies to implement a humanistic, diverse, inclusive environment.
  • Describe national trends and significant influences that play into embracing diversity and social justice.
  • Educate collaborators and implement programs to embrace and empower an inclusive environment.
