Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine-Arizona
Dental educators can empower the future integration of dentistry and primary care. By spearheading this health care alliance, the traditional silos of medical and dental education can be brought together. Participants will learn about the educational, governmental and health care initiatives promoting integration to bridge the gap of inequality in health care access. Participants learn how a dental school in conjunction with its medical cohort developed collaborative curricula in oral disease prevention, oral cancer management and oral-systemic connections in chronic diseases. The session presents novel ways for participants to initiate oral health integration concepts in their school and medical community.
Learning Objectives:
Describe the benefits a synergistic dental-medical integration may have on patient access to health care.
Identify novel ways for incorporating oral health concepts and co-teaching avenues into a medical curriculum.
Recommend methods for developing integration initiatives into participants’ dental school, medical school, or medical community.
