Biomedical scientist faculty perform multiple roles to contribute to the education, research and service missions at dental schools. This also includes serving in leadership roles, which is critical to the future of dentistry. For the non-dentist scientist, there is a less clear path to leadership compared to clinical colleagues. This session will provide short talks to discuss the faculty perspectives from biomedical scientists serving in various leadership roles at dental schools. Perspectives on leadership training, career path, challenges and lessons learned will be discussed. The session will have participants consider ways to improve professional development of future dental school leaders.

Describe one challenge for non-dentists serving in dental school leadership roles.
Examine one opportunity to support leadership development for non-dentists in dental schools.
Identify one strategy that you can implement to help improve non-dentist leadership challenges at your institution.
