Dental educators often face challenges constructing effective test questions that accurately assess learning outcomes, particularly for higher-order thinking skills. Poorly constructed questions can lead to confusion and fail to measure student comprehension accurately. This workshop will equip dental educators with the knowledge and skills to create well-designed formative and summative assessment questions that align with course goals and improve learning outcomes. Participants will learn best practices for question construction, based on evidence-based guidelines. The audience members will learn how to review item analysis of the assessments, identify and revise poorly constructed questions and improve the quality of evaluations.

Learning Objectives:

Identify the principles and guidelines for constructing effective multiple-choice questions that assess recall of content, application and critical thinking skills.
Apply basics of test item analysis to improve exam questions' reliability and validity.
Participate in a team activity to identify and revise poorly constructed questions.
