In 2021, the University of North Carolina Adams School of Dentistry implemented a clinically driven curriculum based on Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs), the Advocate-Clinician-Thinker (ACT) curriculum. The implementation included designing a new EPA framework, translating competencies into clinical practice and developing practice readiness criteria. In this presentation, you will learn how to implement the longitudinal assessment of students’ using EPAs. Examples on assessment (examination, diagnosis), plan of care (treatment planning) and provision of care (restorative and periodontology) will be used to illustrate implementation. Lessons learned during the UNC implementation process will be discussed to empower future decisions.

Analyze the steps used to create a longitudinal assessment system centered around EPAs.
Describe changes and adaptations necessary after the first graduating class.
Examine how other institutions could approach the development of multiple longitudinal assessment based on an EPA framework.
