Considering social determinants of health (SDOH) is essential for enhancing person-centered care and achieving positive oral health outcomes. Current dental school clinics often lack routine procedures for collecting SDOH data. Although students receive training in social history gathering, addressing complex social needs may require additional training. One approach to incorporating SDOH in dental education is through interprofessional education. This presentation will share a collaborative project that implements an interprofessional didactic rotation and Social Work in Dentistry Model at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine predoctoral dental clinics to prepare future dentists with competencies to address SDOH in clinical practice.
