The inauguration of President Donald Trump (R) will likely result in changes to Medicaid programs in many states. While states run their own Medicaid programs, the federal government provides the framework and structure under which state programs must operate. By taking a look at President Trump’s previous term and reviewing the policy changes being discussed one can get a sense for the types of changes that could have an impact on Medicaid providers. These policy changes could have an impact on funding structures, the types of innovative changes states are permitted to make, and the populations eligible for coverage. This session will provide an overview of the changes being implemented and those that are likely to come.

Identify states that are requesting the approval of waivers that will allow them to make changes to their Medicaid programs.
