How does appropriate altruism balance with essential, enlightened self-interest in faculty career objectives? Career and personal objectives should be prioritized but often are minimized or neglected. Being a team player and developing personally need not be mutually exclusive in our career development activities. Attendees will receive guidance and develop individualized objectives for personal and career planning. Participants will learn with fellow attendees via discussion, utilizing a promotion timeline and a decision matrix for career and personal objectives merged with Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. Attendees will take definitive steps toward writing their own career objectives and plotting their career path.
Learning Objectives:
Examine how promotion/tenure processes fit into academic life and will reverse engineer the steps for their next promotion/tenure goal.
Idenitfy their own career and personal objectives to be used in guiding their career path.
Create, using their own matrix, a basis for career-path decision-making.
